Why Website? Why Magazine?
A Link Between the Digital & the Printed
It has always been a dream of mine to work in the media industry. With personal interests to media companies such as Dazed, Pap, and Vogue, I was interested to learn and explore how these brands have evolved from purely producing printed magazines, but also into digital platforms to reflect the time we’re currently living in.
Through the presentation of my Unit 02 portfolio, I wanted to replicate how other media firms have nowadays developed into creating content in both online and offline platforms. The creation of this portfolio has also been significant in my educational experience in enriching the different types of design aspects needed for these two platforms. It also made me realise how design approaches change from simply using different platforms despite the same contents. It made me realise the importance of art direction in how we design and think in ways that could unify both platforms, showing personal growth of my learning journey and developments in visual language.
By looking at how each of the selected media firms present and produce content in both editorial platforms, I managed to learn and execute designing visual layouts in ways that still allow others to make resemblance between the different platforms.
The website takes inspiration from how content is presented in existing media production firms, creating my ‘own’ visual language in the context of contemporary media productions.
